MUMBAI: The first batch of three companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be deployed in the city on Tuesday. In all, there will be 300 personnel.
A senior official said that the force will be deployed in zone one, one of the most sensitive zones and Dadar, Shivaji Park, Dharavi, Govandi, Shivaji Nagar, Cheetah Camp and parts of Kurla and D N Nagar.
The State Reserve police Force (SRPF) was deployed in the city last month.
This is part of 20 companies of central forces the state had requested the Centre for to assist the state police.
The number of policemen from the city testing positive for Covid has gone up and over 10 police personnel have died due to the infection. The CISF companies are part of nine companies withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir and will report to Mumbai on Tuesday.
“The three companies are assigned to Maharashtra, but as Mumbai has become a hotbed for Covid, the first batch of these 300 CISF are being deployed in Mumbai,” said an official.
