Is Chinese President Xi Jinping on way out of Power?

Reports from early to mid-July 2025 indicate that Chinese President Xi Jinping is not stepping down.

However, some news sources and analysts have been speculating about the possibility of a power shift or the groundwork being laid for a succession, citing recent events like Xi Jinping’s absence from the 2025 BRICS summit and periods of disappearance from public view, as well as a possible delegation of authority.

Some also point to a military purge and reports of aides of former president Hu Jintao gaining influence in the CCP as potential indicators of a changing political landscape.

Other analyses suggest that these events don’t necessarily signal an immediate departure but could be part of a broader strategy of consolidating power, adapting to challenges, and maintaining control in the digital era.

It’s important to remember that Xi Jinping has been labeled as “President for life” after the removal of presidential term limits in 2018, and he has held the most powerful positions in the party, state, and military since 2012.

Some speculate that his plans for the future, including potentially sharing power or preparing for a handover, might become clearer around the next Communist Party congress in 2027.
