A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on “Enhancing Innovation Ecosystems through an Innovation Handshake” under the framework of India – US Commercial Dialogue was signed between the two countries on November 14, 2023 in San Francisco.

According to a media brief issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the MoU was signed at the kick-off industry roundtable titled, “Decoding the “Innovation Handshake”: US – India Entrepreneurship Partnership” in San Francisco.

The MoU was signed between Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce & Industry and the US counterpart Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce.

The latest development comes after the leaders’ joint statement during the official state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US in June 2023, which announced the establishment of the “Innovation Handshake”.

Objective of the MOU

The statement added that the MoU is signed with the objective to connect the two sides’ dynamic startup ecosystems, address specific regulatory hurdles to cooperation, share information and best practices for startup fundraising and promote innovation and job growth, particularly in critical and emerging technologies (CET) as identified under India -US initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET).

The ministry added that the MoU signals a joint commitment to strengthen the startup ecosystem in deep tech sectors and promote cooperation in CET. It is poised to positively impact economic activity, attract investment, and generate employment, especially in start-ups working in CET areas.

The scope of cooperation would include a series of India- US Innovation Handshake events, including hackathon and “Open Innovation” programs, information sharing and other activities.

The announcement laid the groundwork for two future Innovation Handshake events scheduled to take place in India and the United States in early 2024.

The events include an investment forum aimed toward helping US and Indian startup companies take their innovative ideas and products to market and a “hackathon” in Silicon Valley where US and Indian startups will pitch ideas and technologies to help address global economic challenges.

It included the launch of a new Working Group on Talent, Innovation and Inclusive Growth (TIIG) under the Commercial Dialogue. It was noted that this Working Group would also support efforts of Startups working towards goals of iCET, particularly in identifying specific regulatory hurdles to cooperation and fostering greater connectivity between our innovation ecosystems with focus on start-ups through specific ideas for joint activities.

Waste to Wealth’: India’s biogas potential to offset gas imports. https://yuvamorcha.com/2024/01/21/waste-to-wealth-indias-biogas-potential-to-offset-gas-imports/ https://yuvamorcha.com/2024/01/21/waste-to-wealth-indias-biogas-potential-to-offset-gas-imports/#respond Sun, 21 Jan 2024 12:50:52 +0000 https://yuvamorcha.com/?p=632 Waste to Wealth’: India’s biogas potential to offset gas imports.

The Waste to Wealth Mission brings scientific processing of waste to the forefront to build a zero landfill and zero waste nation.

India has the potential to significantly reduce its dependence on imported natural gas by ramping up biogas projects, according to a recent report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis.

Rising incomes, rapidly growing but unplanned urbanization, and changing lifestyles have resulted in increased volumes and changing composition (increasing use of paper, plastic and other inorganic materials) of waste in India.

Improper waste management in India has numerous implications on the environment and health. Besides paying attention to ameliorate the immediate environmental and public health crises resulting from the current state of solid waste management, there is also a need for articulating a long term strategy to address the future challenges of solid waste management in Indian cities.

Due to waste generation and insufficient garbage collection, transportation, treatment, and disposal, India faces significant health, environmental, and economic concerns. To tackle the menace numerous initiatives have been taken out which waste to wealth a key one.

The study underlines the multi-faceted environmental benefits of biogas, citing its capacity to manage waste, diminish greenhouse gas emissions, and amplify
renewable energy output.

Biogas can substitute natural gas or other fossil fuels with high emissions. Removing carbon dioxide (CO2) and other impurities like hydrogen sulfide can also upgrade its methane content to 90%, making it equivalent to natural gas in calorific value. This upgraded biogas, also known as biomethane, is a pipeline-ready gas and can be injected into the gas grids as a non-fossil gas,” the report quoted Purva Jain, Energy Analyst at IEEFA.

A key step will be to ensure guaranteed offtake of CBG by different natural gas-using industries to expedite meeting decarbonisation goals. Introducing take-or-pay arrangements will be an important step in this direction.

Significance of waste to wealth
The ‘Waste-to-Energy’ and Waste Management market in India is set to be a $14bn opportunity by the year 2025. The population of 1.3 billion in India currently generates 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste per year.

And by 2027, India is set to become the world’s most populous country as per projections of the United Nations with 7 new megacities.

At this exponential population and urban growth rate, landfills almost 90% of the size of Bengaluru would be required for dumping if the waste remains untreated.
Though rapid urbanization presents a humungous challenge, with the right policy framework and action, this challenge can be turned into a golden opportunity.

Your emotions aren’t just feelings.

According to Chinese medicine your emotions are connected to your organs.

On the surface we separate emotions from physical health. But in truth they’re deeply connected.

Each emotion affects a specific organ. It’s proven that your emotions can create toxins from your thoughts.

𝟏) 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 & 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫:

Anger doesn’t just heat your temper. It puts your liver to work, creating toxins. This link is important in understanding how chronic anger and being in an angry environment can effect your liver health.

𝟐) 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐲𝐬 & 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐫:

Ever felt fear in your gut? That’s your kidneys responding with adrenaline and cortisol. Constant fear can lead to adrenal fatigue, affecting kidney function and potentially causing anemia and hair loss.

𝟑) 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐫 & 𝐅𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧:

Frustration doesn’t just irk your mind. It’s linked to your gallbladder. Managing frustration can help maintain gallbladder health.

𝟒) 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 & 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭/𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬:

Feeling lost isn’t just a mental state. It affects your small intestine, impacting digestion. This connection highlights the importance of mental clarity for gut health.

𝟓) 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 & 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡:

The heart is often linked to joy and happiness. A balanced emotional state can contribute to a healthier heart.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞:

Observe how emotions like anger or fear manifest in your body. Note any physical changes or sensations. Keep a brief daily log. Uncover the link between your feelings and physical responses.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭:

Every emotion inside you is a key that unlocks a response in an organ.

Grasping this deep connection opens doors to a new sense of health and well-being.

It’s not just about healing. It’s about harmonizing the conversation between your emotions and your physical self.

“Emotion always has its roots in the unconscious and manifests itself in the body.”

We didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost: CEO of Nokia https://yuvamorcha.com/2024/01/18/we-didnt-do-anything-wrong-but-somehow-we-lost-ceo-of-nokia/ https://yuvamorcha.com/2024/01/18/we-didnt-do-anything-wrong-but-somehow-we-lost-ceo-of-nokia/#respond Thu, 18 Jan 2024 14:27:38 +0000 https://yuvamorcha.com/?p=472 During the press conference heralding the acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft, the CEO of Nokia delivered a poignant conclusion to his speech: “We didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost.”

The solemn resonance of those words reverberated through the room, leaving the entire management team, the CEO himself included, visibly moved.

What did he mean by saying that? What did he want to convey?

The CEO of Nokia possibly wanted to convey this poignant conclusion to his speech: “We find ourselves in this position not because we did anything wrong, but rather because we failed to adapt.”

Nokia, a company with a storied history and a reputation for excellence, continued its business practices. However, the rapid evolution of the global landscape and their competitors’ formidable strength proved to be insurmountable challenges.

The missed opportunity was more than just financial; it spelled the jeopardy of their existence.

The underlying message of this narrative is clear: in the dynamic arena of business, failure to evolve leads to obsolescence. The company’s reluctance to adapt cost them prosperity and survival.
The takeaways from this reflection are as follows:
Tomorrow’s trends can swiftly supersede yesterday’s advantages.
It’s not a matter of doing anything wrong; competitors seizing the right opportunities can outpace and outperform.
Embracing change and continuous improvement is a pathway to granting oneself a second chance.
Being compelled to change by external forces is akin to being cast aside.
Those resistant to learning and self-improvement risk becoming obsolete and irrelevant, and the lesson is learned at a high cost.
In conclusion, pursuing a better version of oneself is an ongoing journey. Committing to learning and upgrading oneself daily is a personal investment and a strategic imperative for sustained relevance and success in any industry.

BlackRock slashes Byju’s, once India’s most valuable startup at $22 billion, valuation by 95% to $1 billion. https://yuvamorcha.com/2024/01/15/blackrock-slashes-byjus-once-indias-most-valuable-startup-at-22-billion-valuation-by-95-to-1-billion/ https://yuvamorcha.com/2024/01/15/blackrock-slashes-byjus-once-indias-most-valuable-startup-at-22-billion-valuation-by-95-to-1-billion/#respond Mon, 15 Jan 2024 17:48:57 +0000 https://yuvamorcha.com/?p=404

Byju’s, now worth $1 billion only.

Edtech firm Byju’s, once India’s most valuable startup at $22 billion, has seen a massive (95%) drop in its valuation, and is now worth $1 billion.

Asset manager BlackRock, at the end of October 2023, valued its shares in Byju’s at $209.6 apiece, translating to a valuation of $1 billion, as against a peak of $4660 apiece in 2022, which translated to $22 billion. The asset manager owns a stake of less than 1% in the Bengaluru-based company.

In a regulatory filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on January 5, 2024 BlackRock marked down the valuation of its shares in Byju’s parent Think & Learn, for the third time during the course of 2023, at $209.57 apiece for the quarter ended October.

BlackRock, like other mutual fund investors, makes multiple disclosures about its portfolio in a year, without, however, explaining the rationale behind worth valuation adjustments. Also, this is not the first time when the asset manager has slashed the worth of its holdings in the embattled edtech major.

Additionally, BlackRock is not the only investor that has severely downgraded their valuation of the startup, though this is, by far, the most drastic adjustment of the Byju Raveendran and Divya Gokulnath-founded company. Prosus, which has a stake of around 9%, said late last year that its estimation of the unicorn stood at ‘sub $3 billion.’

The downgrade marks a stunning reversal of fortune for Byju’s, which spent more than $2.5 billion in 2021 and 2022, acquiring more than half a dozen firms globally. Byju’s, which has been backed by Peak XV Partners, Lightspeed, UBS, and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, has raised over $5 billion across equity and debt, in the past decade.

The Bengaluru-based edtech company has seen a significant decline in the scale of its operations over the last two years and is looking to sell group assets to clear debt. Byju’s founder Byju Raveendran has been struggling to raise new financing, leading to delays in November salary payouts and other operating challenges.

Once India’s most valued startup, it has been struggling to pay staff salaries while it scouts for buyers of group assets such as Epic and Great Learning. Byju’s is looking to clear a $1.2 billion term loan it had raised in November 2021.

Founder Raveendran has been under pressure from investors to step aside from day-to-day operations. The company’s new India CEO Arjun Mohan fired at least 4,500 employees in September 2023 in a bid to cut costs. Peak XV Partners, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, General Atlantic are among Byju’s invetsors.

Quick pleasures will leave you empty; never confuse it with happiness.

True fulfillment is found in meaning, not moments.

It’s important to have the awareness to not fall victim to some of these pleasures that may seem harmless.

This lack of awareness will derail you from a deep and purposeful life.

𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚:

90% of people consume social media purely for entertainment. Scrolling feeds for hours might seem harmless, but it’s a modern pleasure trap. It gives a false sense of reality and creates comparisons to make you feel less of yourself. It’s a time waster, where that time could be spent on growth and deep work.

When you reject this passive pleasure, your focus and creativity becomes stronger and puts you on the path to elevate your levels from ordinary to extraordinary.

𝐁𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐞-𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠:

Binge-watching can steal hours from your life.

Hours that could be spent:
-Honing a skill
-Building a dream
-Strengthening a bond.

A purpose-driven man guards his time like his life depends on it and invests it only in activities that build towards his legacy.

Binge-watching a series may promise an escape, but it’s a poor trade-off for personal progress and the joy of achieving one’s potential.

𝐔𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝:

Unhealthy foods provides temporary satisfaction but can lead to health issues and a dependency on external sources for emotional regulation.

Choosing nutrition over temporary taste trains discipline and self-control, carving you into a great example of health and decision-making.

It gets easier when you eat clean for a month, and how bad your body feels when you eat something bad usually helps you resist this temptation.

𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦:

The thrill of the latest gadgets or fashion trends is a pleasure that fades as quickly as it arrives.

Rejecting impulsive buying builds financial stability and a sense of inner contentment, separating yourself from those who are trying to keep up with the Jones’s, and that is crowd-chasing material validation.

𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲:

When your character is that of a man with a strong purpose and has a foundation of integrity, the temptation to cheat should have little to no power over you.

Especially if you are a man with a loving family, is that one night of cheating worth destroying your family?

Don’t be selfish and not only damage your life but damage the life of your family because you can’t control some urge you’re unable to control.

𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐧:

Porn gives strong dopamine hits but will deliver disconnection. A disconnection on how you look at yourself and how you might perceive intimacy with future partners.

It can create a hidden addiction, draining emotional energy and the ability to find joy in real relationships and personal accomplishments.

𝐃𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥:

The escape that drugs and alcohol promise is nothing but a mirage. They numb the mind and spirit, stealing the clarity needed to pursue your true calling.

If you want to get high, get high on accomplishing things that move you to the best version of yourself. Use the dopamine system to your advantage, not to harm you.

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞:

  • Swap social media scrolling for skill-building.
  • Trade binge-watching for pursuing a goal.
  • Choose healthy meals over comfort foods.
  • Invest time in relationships, not screens.
  • Practice financial wisdom instead of impulse buying.
  • Seek connection over temporary escapes.

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭:

I hope this thread reveals the deeper joy in meaningful pursuits over fleeting pleasures.

Let this be a step towards a legacy that lasts, not just a moment that passes.

Keep building on this foundation, and watch how it transforms your life and inspires others.

Fredo

GoodMorning
