Covid-19 testing in Thane crosses 2 lakh-mark | Thane News


THANE: The volume of Covid-19 tests conducted in Thane city crossed 2 lakh-mark on Tuesday, officials said.
Civic records revealed that as many as 2,01,394 tests were conducted and equal number of reports were received during the day which means that nearly 9% of the city’s population has been tested here. TOI had reported the volume of tests done here last month showed an average of 5.8%, which was the highest for any city in the district.
The corporation claimed that they have stepped up the volume of investigations since this month registering an average of 5,000 tests daily while 5,607 tests were done on Monday. Officials said around 37% of the tests done till now were rapid antigen while the rest were RTPCR in Thane and said the thrust is more on the former due to its affordability and prompt results.
Meanwhile, the city reported 257 new Covid-19 cases were reported, taking the tally of infected people to 28,226 while four more fatalities pushed the toll to 868.
The city showed a recovery rate of 87% on Tuesday with 24,629 patients recovered till date and only 2729 active cases left here.
