In the case of homegrown FMCG major Dabur, for instance, CSD has banned Real branded juices that are being imported from Nepal and Sri Lanka.
For Bajaj Electricals, CSD has banned items ranging from chimneys and sandwich toasters to OTGs and gas geysers that are being shipped from China in finished form.
Luggage maker VIP Industries, too, couldn’t evade the flak as the CSD has banned a long list of products from Bangladesh.
Atmanirbharta means self-reliance, not insularity. Stopping imported goods of Indian companies is taking the word in its narrowest sense and not in the right spirit. Such a move can lead to isolation and reduce opportunities for Indian businesses. Self-reliance shouldn’t become a self-defeating exercise.
