Management Aptitude Test or MAT is a national-level MBA entrance test conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA). It is held four times every year; in February, May, September and December. MAT is accepted as the qualifying-level or screening test for admission to Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and other allied management courses in over 600 B-Schools spread across India. Every year close to one lakh students take the test in their quest to get admission in several reputed B-schools of India offering MBA/PGDM/etc. Candidates can appear for MAT as many times as they choose to.

MAT IBT to make things easier in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic

The Corona Virus outbreak and subsequent lockdown had prompted AIMA to conduct MAT (Management Aptitude Test) as an internet based test via remote proctoring.
MAT May 2020 in “Remote Proctored Internet Based Test (IBT)” mode is an ‘Anytime-Anywhere’ option that has given students the opportunity to take this test without having to even move out of their homes. This new initiative by AIMA was launched smoothly & successfully on 25 May 2020. At a time when most high stakes exams got rescheduled to July or even later, AIMA is going ahead and conducting MAT-IBT in multiple sessions starting from the above date. The MAT scores will be valid for one year.

The registration window for MAT-IBT is currently open and candidates have been registering for it in increasing numbers. Parents and students alike now appreciate that physical distancing is the need of the hour and the option to take the test securely from the safe confines of one’s own home is most welcome. Given the uncertainties and risks presently associated with using inter-state and even local public transport, the possibility of taking MAT in IBT mode is the best option.

Mock tests too have been scheduled by AIMA to help candidates familiarize themselves with the IBT process and the test environment even before appearing for the actual test. All that the candidates require in order to take
MAT in IBT mode are a computer (desktop or laptop with webcam and microphone) and internet connectivity; both conforming to certain basic technical specifications. The security and credibility of the test is ensured by the robust internationally tried and tested Artificial Intelligence (AI) based software as well as trained and experienced personnel for effective remote proctoring.

The AIMA management is confident that IBT mode of testing is here to stay and, going forward, will immensely benefit students and B-Schools alike. If you are appearing for MAT May 2020 from your home, make sure you take the mock tests to acquaint yourself with the process.
