JAIPUR: An elderly man was killed in Sikar on Monday night during clashes between two groups following an altercation.
According to officials, the accused resorted to stone pelting in which the senior citizen got injured. He was taken to hospital, but succumbed to injuries. Cops have detained four accused in the matter. The deceased has been identified as 60-yearold Om Singh.
“On Monday night, the victm’s son had a scuffle with the accused and when Singh heard about it, he also reached the spot and got injured. He was taken to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries,” said an official of Udhyog Nagar police station.
Singh was a street vendor and during the initial investigation it was found that his son and the accused had an argument over a minor issue which turned fatal for the senior citizen. His son also sustained injuries.
Cops have detained four persons out of which one is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital as he also suffered injuries during the scuffle.
Elaborating further, the official said, “A guard has been stationed at the hospital to keep an eye on the accused while we are trying to trace the fifth accused who is a minor.”
Both the accused and victim stayed in the same neighbourhood and according to officials, the issue was about using a particular path.
“It does not appear to be pre-planned attack as the victim was not even the target. He intervened in the fight between two groups later and unfortunately got hit with stones. We are questioning the accused, but they are yet to be arrested formally,” added the official.
A case under relevant IPC sections has been registered against the accused and investigation is underway. At present it is unclear if the counter FIR will be registered against the victim’s son by the accused who was injured. The victim’s body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
