MUMBAI: A 57-year-old assistant sub inspector became the first Covid-19 casualty from the Government Railway Police (GRP) force in Mumbai. The cop had lost his mother to the virus recently, colleagues said.
About 70 odd personnel from the GRP force have tested positive for Covid-19 so far. Police casualties in Maharashtra rose to 27 with the recent death of the cop.
He lived in the Dharavi railway quarters. He was on leave after his mother got ill and subsequently passed away. When he developed fever and cough, his family admitted him to the Sion Hospital on May 25. Colleagues said he did not have any comorbidities. He tested positive at the Sion Hospital and passed away on Saturday. His wife and daughter will undergo Covid-19 tests.
