From last several days, Varavara Rao’s family members have been demanding that he be released from the jail, considering that he is 80-years-old besides referring to his health problems.
“We have been suspecting from last few days that he is seriously unwell. Initially, he was kept in a hospital inside the jail and we were told by jail authorities that he is doing well. Now, by shifting him to JJ hospital, our fear turned true that the jail authorities have been lying by hiding the actual details of his health condition,” Professor K Satyanarayana, son-in-law of Varavara Rao, told TOI.

The top brass of Hyderabad police initially raised doubts about the communication from Mumbai police and said that the caller who claimed himself a constable from Mumbai police, could be an impersonator.
Later, Hyderabad police commissioner in a tweet said that “It is learnt that Varavara Rao has been admitted to JJ Hospital at Mumbai while in judicial custody. The matter is being informed to family members and necessary passes are being issued by DCP (Central Zone) for family to travel to Mumbai. We are coordinating with agencies in Mumbai.”
