Maharashtra: 50-bed Covid-19 centre set up for cops in Palghar | Mumbai News


PALGHAR: A 50-bed Dedicated Covid-19 Health Centre (DCHC) for police personnel and their families has become operational in Wada taluka of Palghar district from Monday.
The first dedicated centre to treat Covid-19 patients from Maharashtra Police was set up in Kalina last month. Of these, 250 beds are currently operational. Across the state, 34 cops, including 21 in Mumbai, have succumbed to coronavirus infection.
The 50-bed facility has come up in Posheri village and is the first in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The hospital has a capacity to extended up to 100 beds.
Over a dozen police personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district. On Monday, a 21-year-old policeman from Vishnu Nagar in Palghar had tested positive for the infection. He had come in contact with a Covid-19 patient.
The need for a dedicated centre was submitted to the district administration last month after a spike in cases among cops.
Apart from cops and their families, frontline workers like medical, government and essential services persons will also be treated at this centre.
The deaths in the district has touched 40. The total positive cases are 1,236. Vasai-Virar region is the Covid-19 hotspot in the district and cops working in this region are among those affected.
