MUMBAI: An 11-year-old boy drowned in a pit dug by a builder at an SRA project at Vashi aka in Chembur on Saturday afternoon.
The boy, Tejvir Jasbir Singh, a resident of Sayadri Nagar locality, is survived by his parents and siblings.
A huge crowd of family and neighbours gathered at Shatabdi Hospital, demanding that the police immediately book the builder, Deserve Group, for negligence.
According to the police, the builder of Deserve Group is carrying out redevelopment of an SRA project at Om Ganesh Nagar in Chembur. “A few months back, the builder started work and dug the place for piling and has a cement mixing plant. Due to lockdown, the work has been slow and, at many places, slum- dwellers have broken the fence and entered the builder’s site,” said a source.
On Saturday, Tejvir Singh had gone to swim in the pit where rainwater had collected. Police said they have initiated an inquiry and are likely to register an offence on Sunday.
