MUMBAI: Two accused were arrested for the murder of a security guard at Vasari Hill in Goregaon (West) on May 28. The case was solved on Saturday on a tip-off received by the teams from Goregaon and Malad police stations arrested Santosh Kalambe alias CR (43) who led to the main accused Vinod Pujari who shot dead Rakesh Yadav (38). Malad police took custody of Pujari while Kalambe was handed over to the Goregaon police for the test firing he did at a residential building hours before killing Yadav. Before killing Yadav, they did a test firing at a building that hit the window glass of a CA.
The first case was registered with the Goregaon police station after the bullet shredded the window glass of the flat of Chartered accountant, Dhaval Surana (27) at Anmol Tower in Goregaon (West). Surana filed the complaint suspecting that someone fired at his flat to kill him. During the investigation, it was learnt that the same evening the body of Yadav was found with bullet injuries. “Pujari killed Yadav over a past rivalry when he (victim) he intervened in a fight between his friend and the accused,” said DCP (Zone XI) Mohan Dahikar.
Dahikar formed a team that led to the arrest of the duo. “The accused was searching for the victim’s friend to kill but they found him on May 28. Before killing Yadav to check the firing range they did a test fire at the CA’s flat,” said a police officer. The duo is in police custody for murder.
