Three nodes out of the five that has settlement of APMC workers —Nerul , Turbhe , and Koperkhairne have been under watch, with NMMC having done over 2700 mass screnings in Koperkhairne and Turbhe in the last five days since May 26 when OPD facilities were opened.
The Saturday count was the highest for Turbhe (41), followed by 15 each for Koperkhairne and Belapur , while 22 in Nerul, and 14 in Vashi. ( The total 107 in the five wards to south of NMMC area)
NMMC has changed categorisation of positive cases. Earlier , APMC –the wholesale mart had accounted for a high of 33% cases. Two Special drives also followed, the second one was week-long sanitisation and screening of workers. What followed was health check at the gates to contain the spread.
“We all need the wholesale market , so the categorisation is now by way of wards and nodes,” the civic body reasoned. As a way out to cross check the APMC cases, mass screenings are underway in thickly/densely populated and LIG colonies where the workers stay. It’s mandatory and irrespective of any positive cases reported in any family. With 6000 as the figure pegged by a central health team ( 0.4 % of estimated 15lakh population),” NMMC said adding “the figure should have been at 3000. We are aware of the situation. The mass screenings should help.”
