Observing PM’s birthday as national unemployment day, UP Congress workers sell cutlets | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: From selling vegetable cutlets in different districts Kanpur and Kushinagar to holding buddhi shuddhi yagyas and blackening each other’s face in Varanasi, Congress workers went all out emphasizing on the problems of jobless youth in the country on Thursday as the grand old party observed Prime Minister Narendra’s Modi’s birthday as national unemployment day.
Setting the tone for the campaign in a virtual dialogue with Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi undertook a virtual dialogue with over 12,000 jobless teachers from 24 districts of UP where zero posts of teacher’s recruitment were created.
Later taking to twitter, Priyanka listed what jobless youth of India want. “More jobs, irrefutable process for selection so that applicants do not drag the government in courts, timely exams and declaration of results, end of contractual jobs… is what the youth want. The aggrieved youths have raised a war cry. Still if the government continues to remain apathetic towards they demand, the unemployed youth will herald change of guards,” she wrote in Hindi
In the online meeting, Priyanka took the opinion of youths over loss of jobs besides assuring that the Congress policy was for dignity of individual talent and against contractual employment. “Our party’s policy is against contractual appointments. It is unbiased, respects talent and promises respectable remuneration against job,” said a senior leader citing Priyanka Gandhi.
UP congress president Ajay Kumar Lallu said that many attendees broke down in tears narrating their everyday problems. “Selected in 2016 but stuck in the appointment limbo, a mother of twins, has slipped into depression thinking about the fate of her children. Unable to meet the ends, the woman often stays hungry and thinks a thousand times even before spending Rs 10,” he said.
Citing some more examples, Lallu said that several candidates shared that their weddings had been called off on account of loss of jobs in the covid-19 era while most said that they had to face humiliation because of unemployment.
Congress leaders on the other hand also raised a voice against joblessness in the country on social media. Flooding Twitter, Facebook and whatsapp with video messages and creatives, the leaders drew the attention of the government towards ‘real problems’.
Many of them said that ‘selling cutlets or vegetables was not a job. UP Congress legislative party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona said: “it is an act of desperation… a helpless move… which has been mocked by the ruling BJP government.”
Likewise, Congress MLC Deepak Singh said: “graduates and post graduates and youths with professional degrees have engaged themselves in unskilled labour under MNREGA and still the ruling government claims that sab changa si…. (all is well).”
Meanwhile, district units took out general, candle light and torch processions to draw attention towards their plight. In many places, like Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur, they were detained for disrupting law and order while in others the administrative officials took their representations.
