Outstation passengers to be screened at Thane railway station | Thane News

THANE: As the number of cases in the city rises, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) wants all citizens returning to the city via outstation trains to be screened for Covid-19. This includes migrant workers making their way back to the city. Four teams have been readied by the civic body and will be deployed at the exit points of Thane railway station to screen passengers. They will check for infection symptoms and conduct antigen tests.
A rough estimate showed that nearly 5,000 migrants would be returning to the district and city. “There is a high possibility that these passengers could carry the virus with them into the city without their knowledge. If not detected in time, this could become a cause for concern. Those who test Covid positive, will be advised treatment,” said a senior TMC official.
Meanwhile, the Thane civic body is also planning to set up mandatory testing for those visiting the reopened malls. Chief Executive Officer at Viviana mall in Thane, Manoj Agarwal, confirmed they had received testing kits from TMC, but said that the testing was voluntarily conducted.
