Payments made for DL, tourist permits won’t lapse till June 30 | India News

NEW DELHI: Payments made by applicants for obtaining documents or availing services under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules such new or renewal of driving licence, learners licence, international driving permit and to undertake any test won’t lapse till June 30. Similarly, the payments made for obtaining or renewing tourist permits will be treated as valid till June end.
The road transport ministry has made these relaxations considering that many who had paid for such services or documents could not avail them due to the Covid pandemic. Though the amounts paid in many cases are not that high, the relaxations will bring relief to a large section of people, sources said.
“This relaxation will ensure that the state transport authorities don’t impose any penalty simply because the services were not availed in the given time frame. This will mitigate hassles,” said a government source. He added the relaxation has not been provided for vehicle registration related matters considering the Supreme Court order on the pending registration of BS-IV vehicles.
Earlier, the ministry had extended the validity of various documents under the motor vehicle law till June 30. These included validity of driving licences, permits, fitness and PUC certificates. This was done from the enforcement point of view.
The fresh relaxations are meant for people’s convenience.
