Thane: Migrants returning without Covid tests? | Thane News

THANE: Thousands of migrants returning to the city by road and bypassing mandatory Covid tests otherwise done at railway stations could pose a serious risk of contamination here, fear activists.
Thane civic body started screening of outstation passengers at the railway station last week. It found nine of 846 were positive and they were sent for treatment on Thursday.
MNS released a video showing migrants arriving without undergoing tests at a Thane entry point. MNS later escorted few migrants to a testing centre and allowed them to proceed after they tested negative.
“Agents charge Rs2,000-3,500 a person to ensure migrants enter without testing. They are brought in buses and made to alight at city fringes, from where they board autos to their destinations,” said MNS city president Ravindra More.
Deputy civic chief Sandeep Malvi said they will deploy staff at entry points.
