THANE: The venomous snake Russell Viper, known to be most dangerous, was stuck in a mag wheel of a car, the snake was rescued from a society in Vartak Nagar, earlier this week.
The distress call was made to NGO- Wildlife Welfare Association (WWA) after a man who was cleaning the parked car noticed a snake going inside the vehicle, at Kores complex.
“We initially were unable to locate the juvenile Russell viper and after almost half an hour noticed it’s head near the brake pad, it was stuck there and also half of its body was stuck in the mag wheel. Hence we had to remove the wheel, post which the snake started moving and was rescued,” said Nikhil Mahajan, rescuer of WWA.
Mahajan stated that the reptile had minor wounds near the tail but it was fit to be released into the wild.
It is learnt that Russell Viper is amongst the four venomous snakes in India, that cause the highest number of fatalities.
“Even amongst the big four snake, russell viper causes most fatalities as its venom is hemotoxic which affects the muscles and tissues. This reptile is known to be aggressive and have big fangs, there have been incidents wherein they were able to bite people on the legs irrespective of them wearing shoes, the fangs could easily penetrate,” said Aditya Patil, president of WWA.
