VARANASI: An auto parts trader and his wife were killed after the son of their landlord sprayed them with bullets in Atlas Tank locality under the limits of City Kotwali police station in Azamgarh district on Monday.
Superintendent of police Azamgarh, Triveni Singh said that the landlord Rakesh Rai and his son had been arrested.
Rai had a quarrel with his tenant Sanjeev Singh on Sunday late night due to non payment of rent. Following the dispute Rai’s son opened indiscriminate fire on him and his wife on Monday morning, said police.
Singh, a native of Ahiraula area, had an auto parts shop. He was living in the house of Rai on rent. Due to closure of his shop for past two months in view of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, he was facing hardships, said his son. This is why he could not pay the rent to Rai, he added.
Rai had an exchange of heated words with Singh after which the couple was shot at. They were initially rushed to district hospital, where doctors referred them to higher centre due to sharp deterioration in their health condition.
Later, they were shifted to a private hospital, where both succumbed to their injuries.
