AGRA: A member of the nomadic Bawariya gang of robbers, who carried a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest, was nabbed after an encounter with Noida unit of Special Task Force and Mathura Police on Tuesday night in Naujheel area. He got a bullet in his leg in the encounter.
Ramu (30), a resident of Faridabad, and his gang were active in UP and Haryana and used to target vehicles on the highways including the Delhi-Agra Yamuna Expressway.
He had taken over the reins of the Bawariya gang after the death of its leader, Babloo, who was killed in an encounter with Aligarh police in July this year. According to police, Ramu was with one of his associates, who managed to flee during the firing.
A motorcycle, a country-made pistol, live cartridges were recovered from his possession. Mathura SSP Guarav Grover said that the gang was active on Yamuna Expressway and other key highways in UP and Haryana. He added that Ramu was wanted in at least 10 criminal cases in Mathura, Aligarh and Paliwal. Their modus operandi was to throw axles before a vehicle, puncture the tyres and loot the passengers.
